// TEST DRIVE MEME_

// TEST DRIVE_

Welcome to Eluvio's Test Drive Meme! Whether you'd like to try out a character in the setting, get some samples for your application, or just mess around and have fun, this is the place to do it.

If you're getting samples together, remember that you need at least four comments made by you in the thread for it to count.

Pick any of the scenarios below or make up any of your own. This is space! There are infinite worlds and possibilities. If you'd like to thread out hijacking a ship, do it! If you'd like to get stuck on a remote planet with only one other person for company, do it! Take the wheel and guide your own adventure!

The most important thing is to have fun!

➣ SCENARIO 001.

It's a normal day aboard the Eluvio.

Maybe you're on your way to work. Maybe you're hanging out with friends. You can even be up to nefarious misdeeds. Whatever the case, you're having a relatively uneventful day.

And then you see it.

From a distance, it looks like a ball of fur. Up close, it looks like a ball of fur. If you touch it, it will chitter at you. It will vibrate and purr. Where this is coming from is anyone's guess because even if you turn it over, there's nothing to see but more fur. It's pretty harmless, though.

Leave it there. Take it with you. The choice is yours.

As you continue about your day, you'll begin to notice more of these little furballs. On the ground. Sitting on tables. Here and there at random intervals. By the end of the day, they're fucking everywhere.

Good luck! If you get overwhelmed, maybe go talk to that bald starship captain who showed up last week. He might know something about the furry invaders.

➣ SCENARIO 002.

Congratulations! You've been selected to be part of the team being sent down to the planet around which the fleet is currently orbiting. Initial scans of the surface show that oxygen is in abundance, temperatures support carbon-based life-forms, and there aren't any large quantities of poisonous gases that might pose problems. Your mission is to secure a landing site, set up a camp, and locate edible flora and fauna. Stores aboard ship are running a bit low on food and it's projected to be another three weeks before the fleet reaches a station large enough to replenish supplies. Once identified, larger parties will be sent to the surface to help hunt and gather.

The good news is, scans show fruits, vegetables, and animals are plentiful.

The bad news is that once your ship lands on the planet, everything goes sideways.

An unexpected ion storm sweeps through the solar system, shorting out communications between the fleet and the team. It wreaks havoc with the electronics planet-side too, temporarily shorting out the smaller craft's navigational array. Until it passes, about six standard days, you're stuck down there. And the bountiful harvest isn't without its dangers.

Even the most docile looking animal will attack. Sampling the fruits and vegetables will cause temporary paralysis, hallucinations, and psychosis. Inhaling pollen will bring out a person's baser instincts.

The planet itself is predatory, you see. Everything on it has evolved to entice visitors from nearby systems and kill them. And the fleet's unwittingly taken the bait.

➣ SCENARIO 003.

It's been a rough day. Everything's going wrong. Machines are breaking down everywhere. The owner of your favorite business wasn't there today and the store was closed when you stopped by to pick something up. A coworker didn't show up for work, leaving you with an interested workload.

And now it feels like you're being watched.

It started about ten minutes ago, but whenever you turn to look, there's no one there. The feeling doesn't go away, though. No matter where you are, it feels like eyes are watching.

Did you hear something? A quiet, scuffling scratching sound just for a second? Maybe you did. Maybe you didn't.

But it came from the misshapen monstrosity that just punched a hole through the bulkhead right beside you. The creature makes a low, wet gargling noises and darts toward you: six to seven feet tall, vaguely humanoid, and covered in strange growths over which is stretched bubbling grayish-brown skin.

Maybe you notice tatters of familiar clothing hanging off of it. Or there's enough left of its eyes to recognize the shape and color. Or maybe something about the noises it's making sound familiar. It's your missing coworker and it looks like the unfortunate soul ran afoul of that weird slimy creature the science team brought back from that jungle planet a month ago.

The good news: you can kill it.

The bad news: it can kill you.

It's fast, it's hungry, and it reproduces at an alarming rate. A single bite can transfer the parasites in its bloodstream to you. Then you'll be just like your buddy. And that shop owner you like so much. And all of the people on Level 12. And...

➣ SCENARIO 004.

You're welcomed and encouraged to make up your own scenarios. As you can see, there will be a wide variety of the types of things your character will encounter in this game. So feel free to make your starters as horrific, sexy, lighthearted, action-packed, or slice of life as you'd like. Make up a planet, make up a location on the Eluvio, make up a ship in the fleet, fight off a zombie alien invasion, NPC Captain Picard, there's no limit to what you can do on the TDM.

001

"That's what I've been saying." Mio purses her lips in a frowning sort of pout, looking equal parts irritated and pleased. She has her own special tribble--dark red, with a black butterfly pattern--tucked under her arm to keep it out of the way and getting mixed in with the others.

She peers into the invested room and winces. "Jeez. Who's let them go unchecked this long? They're going to take over the whole ship at this rate. But every time I suggest throwing them into space people get all up in arms about it."
realimperfect: (I might see with my chest and sink)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-01-02 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"People feel more keenly for things with fur than for their own well being. It's stupid, really." At the rate these were splitting in to more babies, she didn't want to see the rate at which all of them would eat. In space, the food supplies had to be limited, and all of that added in to a god damn nightmare when it came down to it. Cannibalism and playing the game of survival for the second time was not really what Re-L was after in this new place, either. She'd already had to escape Romdeau - but at least Romdeau was on Earth instead of some random ass part of space.

"Once they start eating this place out of house and home the tune will change, I'm sure. Either way, they've got to go."
remainingtwin: ((riddle me))

[personal profile] remainingtwin 2017-01-02 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, they are pretty cute..." She'd be reluctant to throw her's out too, but her's didn't have the capacity to reproduce like this so there wasn't a need to anyhow. "I think someone said they're born pregnant and so long as they have food they'll reproduce. I guess we could just starve them out, but I don't know how long they can go without food..."

Mio trails off again, looking at her tribble with a frown, like somehow it might speak and give her the answers she wanted. But Re-L's right, they gotta go. "Hopefully before we start rationing supplies or something." Mio eyes the piles of fur curiously. "Unless they're edible too."
realimperfect: (emitting its graces through the pores)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-01-03 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)

"I wouldn't go so far as to call them cute, even." Annoyance, yes, but cute? Hardly, when they were so pesky and took up so much room so quickly. At least in Re-L's view, considering the girl had never once had a pet to speak of, even a robotic one. The idea of being born pregnant at least stirs an actual reaction, brows drawing together and head drawing back an inch as she tries to wrap her mind around that. "What the hell kind of animal is born pregnant.. that must be miserable.."

Says someone who will probably never once experience that kind of thing...

"I think I would rather go back to a strict bean diet than eat these. I can't imagine there's much meat under all of that fur..." A short pause, and then - "Someone ought to just take the helm and eject them... no need for a vote or a debate about it, that's fruitless as there will always be some bleeding heart."
remainingtwin: (This is like a prison without bars)

[personal profile] remainingtwin 2017-01-04 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Mio raises an eyebrow. "What do you consider 'cute' then?" She's curious, naturally. She figures fluffy purring things are what most girls wold find cute, herself included. Mio is nowhere immune to their charms, as much as she gripes about the damned things.

Still, there's a hum of agreement. Miserable indeed. "Its own special kind of hell..." Also what the hell all bean diet?? She considers her time in the village, however, and knows that was definitely a time she wouldn't have minded that kind of diet if it meant getting food at all. "True. I guess you could poison its food too but you'd still be stuck with the bodies. Unless ou could use the fur for something..." Who wouldn't want a tribble-fur coat??
realimperfect: (you make a fine shrine in me)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-01-04 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)

"Nothing like these." Maybe 'cute' isn't a recognized emotion in Re-L Mayer's world. Either way, she doesn't seem to be too keen on elaborating on the whole 'cute' or 'not cute' conversation, lest more people get a clue in to what a heartless beast she is or something to that effect. It has fur - therefore Re-L isn't in to it, basically. If Vincent was furry she probably wouldn't like him, either.

"They could be useful in that facet, I guess." She shrugs, thinking back to her own large, furred jacket somewhere in the ship. But, then again - "They aren't a particularly interesting color, though."

Right, because luxury also needed to be fashionable.
remainingtwin: (I can't see the end of this moment)

[personal profile] remainingtwin 2017-01-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Considering Re-L's response to a single hair on Vincent's chin was to yank it out while faking him out for a kiss? Yeah, that's believable. No fuzz allowed.

Mio does a double-take, a snicker coming forth before she can think to stop it. The color? That's what she was concerned about? "I guess, but do you really need it to look cool if you need it? If we end up visiting some frozen planet or something, doesn't it matter more that it's warm?" She's more amused than anything else, honestly. Priorities.

"What color would you want it in anyhow?"
realimperfect: (shuck all the light from my skin)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-01-06 12:58 am (UTC)(link)

"Warm is one thing, but warm and fashionable makes them a little more useful." Listen, she has a very obvious aesthetic here, Mio. Black, fitted, and sleek. Either way, she wasn't really all that keen on explaining herself that much - and still wants to shove the little things out the nearest airlock. Besides, her own planet was already a frozen wasteland, and she'd arrived with a coat she'd worn in that kind of environment, so to say that she wasn't worried about it was an understatement. And, perhaps, the little secrets of her creation helped her not to feel the cold as much as regular people like Mio.

"This place is pretty advanced anyway. They might have heated suits and the lot... But if I had a choice, they need more of these in black." Still, a few more filter out of the room they're looking in, and with a bit of a grimace Re-L pushes them back inside with her foot before closing it.

"Maybe if we lock them in there they'll suffocate each other eventually."
remainingtwin: (Bowing to the same people)

[personal profile] remainingtwin 2017-01-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Well-- I can agree with that, at least." You can't fight crime if you don't look cute, or something. Black suits Re-L; Mio doesn't really consider herself an expert or to have an eye for these sorts of things, but she really can't see the other woman wearing bright an colorful clothes. She has a feeling that while Re-L might be able to pull off most things, she's too pale to make even things like that look good.

She looks at the tribbles again and is it her or are there more than there was a few minutes ago? "...That might not be a bad idea, actually. If we lock it up and leave we can just pretend we never saw them either. Then nobody can get mad we didn't help or something."
realimperfect: (emitting its graces through the pores)

[personal profile] realimperfect 2017-01-06 05:21 am (UTC)(link)

The thing Re-L has in her favor is that she's rather long and lanky - it helps, even when she's clad in her usual all black outfit, to maybe make things look a little less dower. Though,, her sprinkles of dark purples and blues may help, too. Either way, it seems that she's not going for reds or red-browns when it comes to tribble coats.

The door slides shut and Re-L gives a little nod, doing a little mental estimating. "Well at the rate they multiply it shouldn't take more than a few hours at most." Said like a true sociopath, Re-L. She's got no love for these little furballs and it shows - she'd rather let them wipe themselves out than help them continue on.

The next comment about people being angry brings a dismissive motion of her hand, and what could be heard as a laugh. "Let them be angry, anyways. It isn't like I asked to be here."
