She understands the benefits of research, of course, but ordinarily...she would be the one assigning these tasks, not having to do them herself. She'd much prefer engaging with the local populations, make attempts to talk to them (though it's very likely impossible), learn about them and their culture from them as opposed to learning about them from a scientific standing.
