// TEST DRIVE_

Welcome to Eluvio's Test Drive Meme! Whether you'd like to try out a character in the setting, get some samples for your application, or just mess around and have fun, this is the place to do it.

If you're getting samples together, remember that you need at least four comments made by you in the thread for it to count.

Pick any of the scenarios below or make up any of your own. This is space! There are infinite worlds and possibilities. If you'd like to thread out hijacking a ship, do it! If you'd like to get stuck on a remote planet with only one other person for company, do it! Take the wheel and guide your own adventure!

The most important thing is to have fun!

➣ SCENARIO 001.

Welcome to Oros! It's no vacation destination and you're in for an interesting ride. While the planet is big, there's not much to explore beyond the vast, stretching reaches of a boiling hot, red desert. Which means it's fun for the whole family!

There are hostile aliens on the planet who aren't taking kindly to you, an alien on their planet. They're stronger than you and you're out numbered. Likely out gunned, too. But, really, good luck! You'll be coming back alive.

For more information on the planet and things that may be found there, please go here and give it a read! There you can also find the missions completed in game should you need any additional prompt. Whatever you can imagine that fits with the setting itself works!

[ PLEASE NOTE: Threads taking place on Oros cannot be used as game canon, as they required prior signups to participate, but the setting is provided so that you can get an idea of just one of the kinds of events that will be in game! ]

➣ SCENARIO 002.

Congratulations! You've been selected to be part of the team being sent down to the planet around which the fleet is currently orbiting. Initial scans of the surface show that oxygen is in abundance, temperatures support carbon-based life-forms, and there aren't any large quantities of poisonous gases that might pose problems. Your mission is to secure a landing site, set up a camp, and locate edible flora and fauna. Stores aboard ship are running a bit low on food and it's projected to be another three weeks before the fleet reaches a station large enough to replenish supplies. Once identified, larger parties will be sent to the surface to help hunt and gather.

The good news is, scans show fruits, vegetables, and animals are plentiful.

The bad news is that once your ship lands on the planet, everything goes sideways.

An unexpected ion storm sweeps through the solar system, shorting out communications between the fleet and the team. It wreaks havoc with the electronics planet-side too, temporarily shorting out the smaller craft's navigational array. Until it passes, about six standard days, you're stuck down there. And the bountiful harvest isn't without its dangers.

Even the most docile looking animal will attack. Sampling the fruits and vegetables will cause temporary paralysis, hallucinations, and psychosis. Inhaling pollen will bring out a person's baser instincts.

The planet itself is predatory, you see. Everything on it has evolved to entice visitors from nearby systems and kill them. And the fleet's unwittingly taken the bait.

➣ SCENARIO 003.

It's been a rough day. Everything's going wrong. Machines are breaking down everywhere. The owner of your favorite business wasn't there today and the store was closed when you stopped by to pick something up. A coworker didn't show up for work, leaving you with an interested workload.

And now it feels like you're being watched.

It started about ten minutes ago, but whenever you turn to look, there's no one there. The feeling doesn't go away, though. No matter where you are, it feels like eyes are watching.

Did you hear something? A quiet, scuffling scratching sound just for a second? Maybe you did. Maybe you didn't.

But it came from the misshapen monstrosity that just punched a hole through the bulkhead right beside you. The creature makes a low, wet gargling noises and darts toward you: six to seven feet tall, vaguely humanoid, and covered in strange growths over which is stretched bubbling grayish-brown skin.

Maybe you notice tatters of familiar clothing hanging off of it. Or there's enough left of its eyes to recognize the shape and color. Or maybe something about the noises it's making sound familiar. It's your missing coworker and it looks like the unfortunate soul ran afoul of that weird slimy creature the science team brought back from that jungle planet a month ago.

The good news: you can kill it.

The bad news: it can kill you.

It's fast, it's hungry, and it reproduces at an alarming rate. A single bite can transfer the parasites in its bloodstream to you. Then you'll be just like your buddy. And that shop owner you like so much. And all of the people on Level 12. And...

➣ SCENARIO 004.

You're welcomed and encouraged to make up your own scenarios. As you can see, there will be a wide variety of the types of things your character will encounter in this game. So feel free to make your starters as horrific, sexy, lighthearted, action-packed, or slice of life as you'd like. Make up a planet, make up a location on the Eluvio, make up a ship in the fleet, fight off a zombie alien invasion, there's no limit to what you can do on the TDM.

[ Jace lets out a breath.

It used to be that he'd have expected Alec to be with him, no matter what. Things haven't always gone so smoothly lately.
]

you will?
okay, then. thank you

i know it's not like home. this isn't what i want either.

[ Though, even if he were at home, Jace still wouldn't be feeling it. He'd still be separated from all the others. He'd be separated from Alec, too. It's not exactly a situation he wants to run back to, even though he knows it's the right thing to do.

It's complicated. He needs to not think about it.

That's assuming that they also have a way to keep them contained on the ship. We don't even know what they are now.

[ Among the things going over Jace's head: that reference, and whatever the hell 'raknar' is. ]

Simon?

[ Figures. There's a slight edge to his voice when he says: ]

What rule? I don't know what you're talking about. [ That's par for the course. The other thing, though. ] Anyway I'm not looking to relax. Training is important. None of us know what we're facing next, and shouldn't you of all people want to practice?

[ You, the new vampire, who has power you don't yet know how to control. He's just saying. ]

[ Ordinarily, he'd be secretive. If this were his own world, he wouldn't even be visible right now. But this isn't his world, and the rules are different. He has to work with these people, and besides.

If this is going to be a fair fight, it's right that she knows.
]

They're runes. They make me faster, stronger, more accurate. They do a lot of different things.

[ Too many to list, unless she wants to sit down for a lecture on the subject. Jace prefers to teach with action, anyway. ]

It makes me stronger than most Mundanes, so I'm not sure you want my worst.

[ But we'll see. He comes closer anyway, arms raised. His first couple of jabs are far from difficult, easy enough to block providing she's not a total novice. ]

i didn't say they couldn't, clary.

[ She's always so inclusive. Ready to trust people no matter who they are, and that's not how Jace was raised.

The hilarious thing is, he was trying to be inclusive. He asked for sparring partners. He offered to teach people, what more does she want?
]

what do you want me to do? i'm talking to them, aren't i?

[Zack's already been pacing impatiently, grumbling to himself over how he didn't know shit about any of this and playing with a switchblade. Being stuck...wasn't good. At least he could get outside -- something that he kicks himself in the head for not realizing until Apollo makes his offer.]

There's some fuckin' annoyin' phrases about this... Misery loves company? Beggars can't be choosers?

[It wasn't his first choice of company, but at least he seemed likeminded for...some things. Being outside kinds of things. Like this guy knew anything about cages. Ha.]

Let's just get the fuck outta here...

He snorts and lifts his own weapon, a black scythe, over his shoulder before giving the other man a challenging raise of his brow.]

Why don't we just cut them down? You already got the party started -- why waste time now?

[ Okay, you know what? It's not that he's not down with that plan, but - ]

Because it's infectious. It used to be my partner. We don't clear this level, we'll be fighting everyone living on it.

[ Aside from that, he has no problems with cutting it down. Regardless of what or who it used to be, it's a monster now, and Jace knows what needs to be done. He raises his hand, and the Seraph blade flashes with light. ]

Are you helping me or getting out of my way?

Makes sense. [Even just on regular old Earth the military had them do drills and it wasn't unheard of for regular fitness training to stay in shape. Maybe some things aren't as different in space.]

And what's the little round thing floating around and firing at them called? We don't have stuff like this in our drills back home.

[He points, indicating what is likely some sort of droid used for simulations for combat training.]
pscythopath: (3 sarcasm)

[personal profile] pscythopath 2017-02-04 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Zack rocks back on his heels before leaning to the side like he needs to get a better judge of what's behind Jace before he can make his decision. He's never been big on rescue efforts...]

Doesn't sound like a problem to me. [Hmmn. How many people even lived on this level? Did it matter? And why the heck was the sword glowing? His scythe didn't do anything cool like that!!] Fuck, man, I don't care about any of them. Might not even be able to resist killin' them myself if they look like they're gonna shit their pants. Besides, slay 'em fast enough and they can't infect people or whatever, right?

It's fine, fine. I can tell they're people who are important to you, one way or another. Even if they're part dolphin sometimes. Or a tank. Not talking about them would be as strange. This way, I'm meeting the idea of them through you.

SCENARIO 002

Oh... oh, wow! Oh, wow!

[This world is so lush! It's so green! He can't help bobbing up and down in excitement, forgetting for the moment that he has work to do. As a hard-to-kill skeleton kid he gets picked a lot for initial explorations, but keeping him on task isn't always easy.]

It's so pretty here! Look at all of these trees, and those rocks in the air, it's so nice!

Don't you think it's nice, uhh...?

[He didn't catch his companion's name before, and now he's a bit embarrassed to ask.]

[personal profile] unluckynumberseven 2017-02-04 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Eek!

[The room was indeed occupied by someone who was also trying to hide from the things.

It's a skeleton kid, hovering two or three feet off the ground.

He lowers his voice a little and gestures at Hughes to do the same.
]

I-it's okay! It'll be all right, as long as they don't hear us.
dadandgone: (What the Hell)

who doesn't? no apologies needed

[personal profile] dadandgone 2017-02-04 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Maes jumps at the 'eek', turning and looking at little pale at the sight of the skeleton kid. He'd honestly thought he'd seen the extent of weirdness back home, but apparently with space comes a whole new slew of strange -- and Maes isn't sure if he should be freaked out by the skeleton kid or not. It's probably a good thing that Maes is without any kind of weaponry, but luckily it appears he didn't just exchange one monster for another.

His expression shifts and he nods, lowering his voice.
]

You know what these things are?

[If anything in this whole scenario could be lucky--if he believed in luck as a specific concept--it remains a bitter, begrudging point of pride that this isn't the first planet that presents a functional anomaly upon landing. The real luck is that the landing hasn't involved some manner of invented excuses, no crash cleverly disguised as some form of "rough" landing.

But all of that aside, the anomaly itself is quite the opposite of luck. An ion storm is the last thing he needed, and of course, it's the first thing he's given, as if the Force itself is giving him a shit eating grin and calling this some sort of "test." No matter what he tries, however, the navigation still keeps blinking in and out, giving a poor scrambled image of the surrounding area, or simply stalling with an annoying warning.

And the static of dead air he gets over the communication system speaks more volumes than a confirmation of error ever could. For now, he's stuck. He leans back against the outside of the small ship with a groan and bangs his head back against the hull with a resounding thud.

The real unlucky part of the trip is when the thud echoes back.

Head still smarting--and honestly that's his own fault, isn't it?--he's suddenly alert, peering intently into the nearby underbrush, his hand moving to rest plainly and intently on the hilt of his lightsaber. And under his breath:]

I have a bad feeling about this.

[Maes processes that information fairly quickly.]

You mean those things out there were--are people?

[He wishes he could get a better look now. Maybe there would be a clue or something to use. Instead he settles for slipping a little closer to the door to listen. It's quiet in the hallway at least.]

So they might just be sick or...something?

[He smirks at the 'new' comment.]

No kidding. It's the same for me -- and all of this space stuff makes absolutely no sense to me anyway, I just figured this was another part of the regular weirdness out here.

[Her head jerks and rolls to her other shoulder so she can look down at the lower half of her body. She hums thoughtfully]

That would work, I can reattach the foot at camp, probably. Do you have something to cut my foot off with? Or I suppose you could just rip the stitches and threads out themselves. [She grins sheepishly.] I'd do it myself, but...

[Her one hand is currently holding the thread she has remaining taut to keep it from loosening too much and undoing her work when she moves. And her other arm is still dragging itself over to her body--it'd take too long for it to undo the stitching itself.]

A moment or two later, he responds in a whisper.

You want to eat flowers? [It's the most important pullback from their conversation thus far, obviously. Dave has less than zero experience with wildlife foraging. The closest he'd ever gotten to foraging was when he would shuffle through kitchen drawers looking for ramen.

He shakes his head.]

They aren't plants, they're like plants. They're like, rats. Or squirrel rats. Or something. [This guy knows his shit.

Dave squints at Apollo.]

What? [Then he's looking at his feet and legs and the plants creeping up around them.]

Buaggh- [The sound is reminiscent of Hank Hill. If Hank Hill were 16. Dave shakes his legs vigorously, dragging himself out of the patch of creepy plants and a little closer to Apollo. For no particular reason, definitely not a sudden fear of death.]

Mundanes, huh?

[ light on her feet, dutch blocks the jabs easily, years and years of training having ingrained automatic responses that she doesn't need to think about any more. it's easy to get lost in this kind of thing, but dutch can never let go entirely. if she does, she kills. so there's an edge of control, some measure of her holding back even when she blocks a punch and her leg kicks out, aimed at his side. ]

[His time has come. He just wishes he'd fixed up his scythe already. Zack pulls out the switchblade he's been tiding himself over with and steps closer, only pausing so he can go to the arm and kick it on closer to her. Having to watch it go all that way would just be pathetic and gross.

Of course, Fran is dealing with a real idiot here and he gets a little zealous in his task of cutting the foot. Right on the stitches. Ruining most of the thread. He triumphantly holds up the foot and its little nibs of thread.]

Evening. [Thor greets Vision with a warm smile. There's clearly some amusement in his expression, since he can see that he's roused him from some contemplation.]

I hadn't expected to be here at this time myself. [He has a mug of something in his hand. It looks like hot chocolate, it probably has something alcoholic in it.] Had I known you'd be here, I'd have brought you a drink. [But that doesn't stop him from taking a long sip as he strides closer.]

It's a sight to behold, isn't it?
