// TEST DRIVE_
// TEST DRIVE_ ![]() Welcome to Eluvio's Test Drive Meme! Whether you'd like to try out a character in the setting, get some samples for your application, or just mess around and have fun, this is the place to do it. If you're getting samples together, remember that you need at least four comments made by you in the thread for it to count. Pick any of the scenarios below or make up any of your own. This is space! There are infinite worlds and possibilities. If you'd like to thread out hijacking a ship, do it! If you'd like to get stuck on a remote planet with only one other person for company, do it! Take the wheel and guide your own adventure! The most important thing is to have fun! ➣ SCENARIO 001. ![]() Something's wrong with the fleet. A week ago, explosions of unknown origin took out two of the fleet's abandoned ships and the power systems and ever since, daily life has been something of a challenge. Full power still hasn't been restored, so all of the amenities you've come to enjoy have been unavailable. The holorooms, the training areas, the recreational areas, the exotic restaurants and shops: they're all either not working or not working properly. When they're on, the lights are dim and operating on emergency power only. When they're not, they're flickering on and off or they're just plain off. Sometimes doors shut and don't open, trapping people inside lifts and rooms. Sometimes the gravity even goes. And that's just the malfunctions. Rumor has it that bodies of former passengers, or at least parts of them, are being found here and there throughout the ship in often gruesome ways. None of the crew members have answers. The rest of the passengers are clueless at best or forming conspiracy theories at worst. Good luck, unwilling arrivals! You're going to need it just to get through the day. [ NOTES: What this means is that basic systems on the fritz and characters may encounter issues and inconveniences of any level of severity. Types of problems include, but are not limited to: glitches in the communication network that lead to dropped connections or attempts to reach a character connecting with the wrong recipient, unreliable gravity that goes out at various parts of the ship at random times, lights going out completely for an hour or two, or doors jamming and trapping characters in unfortunate and awkward situations. ] ➣ SCENARIO 002. ![]() Congratulations! You've been selected to be part of the team being sent down to the planet around which the fleet is currently orbiting. Initial scans of the surface show that oxygen is in abundance, temperatures support carbon-based life-forms, and there aren't any large quantities of poisonous gases that might pose problems. Your mission is to secure a landing site, set up a camp, and locate edible flora and fauna. Stores aboard ship are running a bit low on food and it's projected to be another three weeks before the fleet reaches a station large enough to replenish supplies. Once identified, larger parties will be sent to the surface to help hunt and gather. The good news is, scans show fruits, vegetables, and animals are plentiful. The bad news is that once your ship lands on the planet, everything goes sideways. An unexpected ion storm sweeps through the solar system, shorting out communications between the fleet and the team. It wreaks havoc with the electronics planet-side too, temporarily shorting out the smaller craft's navigational array. Until it passes, about six standard days, you're stuck down there. And the bountiful harvest isn't without its dangers. Even the most docile looking animal will attack. Sampling the fruits and vegetables will cause temporary paralysis, hallucinations, and psychosis. Inhaling pollen will bring out a person's baser instincts. The planet itself is predatory, you see. Everything on it has evolved to entice visitors from nearby systems and kill them. And the fleet's unwittingly taken the bait. ➣ SCENARIO 003. ![]() It's been a rough day. Everything's going wrong. Machines are breaking down everywhere. The owner of your favorite business wasn't there today and the store was closed when you stopped by to pick something up. A coworker didn't show up for work, leaving you with an interested workload. And now it feels like you're being watched. It started about ten minutes ago, but whenever you turn to look, there's no one there. The feeling doesn't go away, though. No matter where you are, it feels like eyes are watching. Did you hear something? A quiet, scuffling scratching sound just for a second? Maybe you did. Maybe you didn't. But it came from the misshapen monstrosity that just punched a hole through the bulkhead right beside you. The creature makes a low, wet gargling noises and darts toward you: six to seven feet tall, vaguely humanoid, and covered in strange growths over which is stretched bubbling grayish-brown skin. Maybe you notice tatters of familiar clothing hanging off of it. Or there's enough left of its eyes to recognize the shape and color. Or maybe something about the noises it's making sound familiar. It's your missing coworker and it looks like the unfortunate soul ran afoul of that weird slimy creature the science team brought back from that jungle planet a month ago. The good news: you can kill it. The bad news: it can kill you. It's fast, it's hungry, and it reproduces at an alarming rate. A single bite can transfer the parasites in its bloodstream to you. Then you'll be just like your buddy. And that shop owner you like so much. And all of the people on Level 12. And... ➣ SCENARIO 004. ![]() You're welcomed and encouraged to make up your own scenarios. As you can see, there will be a wide variety of the types of things your character will encounter in this game. So feel free to make your starters as horrific, sexy, lighthearted, action-packed, or slice of life as you'd like. Make up a planet, make up a location on the Eluvio, make up a ship in the fleet, fight off a zombie alien invasion, there's no limit to what you can do on the TDM. |
Hunk Garret | Voltron: Legendary Defender
[A DAY. He's been here one single DAY and already he's not sure he likes any of this. He woke up in some weird situation, he was told there were problems, and now he's on a strange ship in space, in the dark, and the gravity has shut down.]
[If he could just. Reach. That. Bulkhead...]
[Arms waving, legs kicking, he tried, and tried and just barely managed to get his finger tips on it, pulling himself to the side wall to stop his wiggling around. A hand came to his mouth to hold in the processed food he didn't want to revisit.]
Oh Crow... I hate zero gravity... [He mumbled, forcing his meal down again instead of letting it float outside his body with him. That's a mess no one should have to clean up.]
[Ahead of him he could see someone else, having trouble getting anywhere. Pushing himself forward on the wall he called out.]
Hey! Give me a moment and I'll help. [He'd help a few people, at least get to the wall side if he could. Not to mention the higher up one is, the harder the fall feels.]
(SCENARIO 004.)
[The Yellow Lion is shut down, drifting in space, a short distance from planet to fleet. This mission was a bust and their escape was barely tolerable. Except as they were leaving, the Lion covering another ship's exit, something from the planet shot upwards and hit him and the ship he was escorting. An Ion blast, maybe, because most of the systems on his ship shut down.]
[All of them have, actually.]
[He can't tell who else is out there, if anyone at all. He can't tell if he's near the fleet, or if the escape shuttle he was escorting made it. Life support is down, and Yellow is silent in his head. After a while, he realizes his Communicator on his wrist has come back to life.]
Eluvio to Yellow Lion, come in. Voltron and Castle of Lions, Please come in. Someone. Anyone? Oh man, please don't tell me I'm out here alone...
1
Then she realizes she can't reach anything or propel herself, and she starts flailing until she hears a voice. She twists, trying to see who's speaking.]
Can you help me find something to hold on to? [Despite the fear clawing at her gut, there's only a slight tremble in her voice.]
no subject
[Or worse, crash into the person and THEN crash them both into a wall. That would suck for both of them in general.]
[He's pulling himself along the wall though. If anyone was standing on the floor as it was meant to be, he'd be completely sideways to the floor. A big guy, propelling himself along from point to point, coming up near by in the large hall way, hooking his foot into a bulkhead and stretching out, offering her a hand.]
Here. Can you reach? Take my hand. I'll pull you over. [At least he didn't feel like he needed to vomit anymore.]
no subject
Does this sort of thing happen often? [She tries to make it sound lighthearted, but she's starting to wonder. Just how much is going wrong with the ship, if her arrival was also an accident? Sabriel pushes down on that thought. She needs to deal with the problem in front of her.]
no subject
Don't worry. I've got ya. Slow and easy. [He said it as he pulled her over with him, and drifted her closer to the part of the wall that stuck out a bit more, offering her a place to hold on.] Try getting yourself lower to the ground, in case the gravity comes back on. The fall hurts.
[He then gave her an uneasy smile.] I ah, honestly don't know? I mean, I don't know about here. I just got here myself, but they said there were glitches lately? Power problems. You okay? [The last part was asked softly, making sure she hadn't hurt herself at some point.]
no subject
I wonder if it has anything to do with our arrival here. That was also unintended, wasn't it? [She hopes it was, anyway.]
no subject
[He pulled himself down the wall a bit as well, so that when the inevitable power up and return of gravity hits, he wouldn't hit the floor twice as hard.] I uh, I really don't know. I mean, I would hope our arrival was unintended, but this is getting ridiculous.
I mean, you don't think they picked us out and brought us here, do you? [A honest question, not an accusation]
no subject
Are you familiar with this sort of technology? [Perhaps he could explain things.]
no subject
I uh, truth be told, I think Earth was a bit more advanced than just Radio's but then I got thrown into somewhere new before this and... and it's a bit intimidating, but real cool. Like... really cool. So... yeah! I know a little about this technology! But... who knows how much. They wont let me play around in it yet.
no subject
Do you think you could fix it, if they let you try?
004
...but at least this time he can honestly say that it's not his fault it went bad. ]
What's your position and status?
[ While it's tempting to fire a return volley planet-side, he's not out here with Zero to cause any more destruction. Search and rescue is the task he was handed, and although the mobile suit isn't really equipped to handle passengers or tow large objects, it isn't that it can't... he's just hoping the most he'd end up having to do is play escort for a wounded vessel. In a worst-case, he could push the thrusters and reactor, relying on manual control of the verniers to make up for any additional weight.
He'd really prefer not to have to treat his gundam like a 4x4 truck sliding on ice to haul something though, but until he knows what it is he's dealing with, it's a possibility he has to entertain. ]
no subject
[When that static came cross his wrist comm though, he grabbed at his arm to bring it closer.]
Yes! Yes, this is Hunk and, ah... position? Dead in the water. Well, I guess water isn't the right term. You get the picture. I'm not sure of location. I was escorting Shuttle 004 back to the Eluvio. We got hit with something, but... I can't see it. Did it make it back?!
001!
So Sora's up ahead, busy making himself look like a bit of a fool with the way he's grunting and flailing about. And with the way he summons his Keyblade to try and use it to hook onto something. That, unfortunately, doesn't work.
It's just as he slumps over in the air, defeated, when he hears Hunk call out. ] Huh?
[ Turning his head to look in the direction of the voice, and then smiling when he sees him. ] Hey, thanks! I thought I'd be stuck here forever!
no subject
[But seriously, he's moving through the hall by the wall now, having helped a couple of people get hold of something or another. He's trying to stay low to the ground, in case it goes and kicks in again. Last thing he wants to do is drop to his face again.]
[Again. It's happened before. It's terrible.]
I doubt it'll be this way forever. We wouldn't be able to survive long like this. [Grim, and not exactly true? but close enough. He's making his way closer, moving to stop not far away, and stretching out a bit. Sora, you are too far away. He strains a bit, but he doesn't want to lose grip with the wall and his toes.]
I hope this isn't normal though. Hey, just a little... closer...
no subject
That's ... comforting. [ It's clear in his tone that he doesn't think that, however. Sora isn't the sciencey smart type, so knowing how space or zero gravity works isn't exactly his forte.
Sora reaches for Hunk as well, but his shortness and distance aren't doing anyone any favors. So he re-summons that Keyblade after a moment, and stretches that out for him instead. Much easier. ]
Here, grab this!
[ This is not the kind of situation Keyblades are meant for but you know what, it's an emergency. Sort of. ]
no subject
Oh, uh, well, I mean we could. You'd just have to get used to it. early space programs used to be in zero g all the time before they learned gravity controls in small crafts. [he said it cheerfully, as if that would help. Also, nerd talk is fun sometimes.] Don't think about what those poor space pioneers had to eat though. It makes me shudde--whoa...
[He said all this as he tried to reach, only to see the sword like key thing... appear. Eyes wide a moment as he stared at the kid, then... ah, yeah, that was easy. he reached out to take hold of it, carefully, and pulled the boy in. Making him drift forward, not too fast, so he didn't crash.]
Whoa, is that a key?
no subject
Most of Hunk's explanation goes a little over his head, though. Again, Sora isn't the thinky type. But it's not that he isn't interested!
He de-summons his Keyblade once its job is done, drifting into the wall Hunk's on and holding onto it as best he can. ]
Uh — yeah, sorta. [ It's both a key and a blade? So he's half right! But that last bit of what Hunk was talking about got his attention in a weird way, so he can't help but ask — ] ... What'd they have to eat?
004
[ Sent out on search and rescue for something that wasn't a gundam wasn't something that Duo Maxwell was entirely accustomed too. He's got the gundam cloaked, for now, hoping that whatever is causing the problem won't be able to sense him out in the glitter strewn blackness if he was cloaked.
He spooks a little as the distress call comes in, but catches himself and rapidly types in the commands needed to tap in to the other man's communication channel. ]
Yo - Deathyscythe Hell to Yellow Lion - you read me?
no subject
[And damn Yellow for being silent. It feels weird not to hear him.] Come on, Buddy. Don't leave me out here alone. [he whispered to his lion, only to jump as he heard someone come through.]
Yellow Lion to ... Deathscythe Hell? [Off com he repeated it] Deathscythe Hell? That's a name. [And back to comms.] I read you, but that's about it. Yellow's dead in the water out here.
no subject
Well, I'm cloaked too, just in case anything's out here lookin' for us... [ Carefully, Duo moves around to try and suss out where this 'yellow lion' may be, hoping that the name is literal and he'll therefore he easier to spot. After all.. what's easier to spot than something yellow in glitter and black.
He asks the next question in a tone that suggests he's sort of distracted, probably trying to spot him out. ]
Any identifying markers near you that may make ya a little easier to spot out instead of scanning left to right and hoping? [ There's a muttered conversation to someone he refers to as "Yuy" on another closed line, but nothing too noteworthy there - ]
Hey wait, is your machine literally a yellow lion or what?
no subject
[He frowned at 'identifying marks'. Honestly? Oh yeah, turn left at the Shake and Burg stand. Right there. He let out another breath though. and looked more.]
Just stars out the main view port. Planet is port side to me. The fleet should be starboard of me, but... doubt that helps. Honestly, I got nothing here. Other than, yeah, I am in a literal yellow mechanical lion the size of a small building.
Oh, we were taking off from sector five in the mission statements. That was where Evacuation Shuttle 004 was leaving from!
[So much calmer now. Not going to vomit. Not going to do it.]
no subject
Ok, well, it's better than nothing... [ There's a few mechanical blips on Duo's end, tapping away at keys as if setting parameters for Deathscythe's systems to scan for metallic objects or odd floating things out in space. He doesn't every every single bit of information about where exactly each ship was launching from, but even with the approximate knowledge of a few he could figure out Hunk's general location -
Aha! Deathscythe's systems begin to bleep and blare as they sense out the yellow lion, honing in on it for Duo to line up where he needed to go versus where he was - ]
Alright, I've gotcha, hold tight - Got an ETA of like three minutes if I'm calculating right spit ballin' -
[ Try not to panic, hunk, when in around that span of time a gundam appears nearby, bat-like wings spread and eyes glowing green. ]
Hey there. Just gotta get you hooked up for a tow, then.
S C R E A M S also 004.
he needed to find hunk. ]
Hang in there, buddy. I'm- [ he pushes down on blue's thrusters, shooting off into space. ] on my way!
[ it doesn't take long before he gets over there, but it's enough time that lance is worried, and is maybe jerking around a bit faster than is totally necessary. he makes it to the debris and pulls to a slow, checking around for any signs of the big yellow ship.
the second he has a chance to pause, a transmission makes its way through. ]
-nyone? Oh man, please don't tell me I'm out here alone...
Hunk? [ of course it's hunk. he wouldn't mistake that scaredy voice anywhere. ] Hey! Bigman! I'm here! Where are you?
\o/ Broooo
[Yellow drifted in space, no tilt or spin at all. He had no idea if the escorted shuttle made it out or if he was there alone. It felt like he was alone. He couldn't hear Yellow and that upset him more than anything.]
[moving in the cockpit now, he pet the inside of Yellow, while trying to peek out the view port. only to pause as he heard that voice!!! A wash of relief hit him suddenly. Oh man, if Lance is looking for him, he'll be fine.]
I'm here! Lance?! Boy am I glad to hear you. I don't know my location. I was escorting escape shuttle 004 from sector five when something hit us. Me? I don't know. Yellow's non responsive and I think all systems are down. All of 'em, Lance.
HES HERE TO SAVE THE DAY
lance pushed blue through the wreckage, looking around for any sign of a large yellow lion ship. it shouldn't be this difficult to find, really, but if the power's off that could be interfering with the signal. ]
Not all of them or we wouldn't be talking, right? But don't worry! I'm here looking for you now. How far off-course did you get tossed? Do you know? [ how hard is it to see a giant yellow lion. ]
Quiznak, there's so much stuff around here. Was there this much debris when you were escorting the shuttle?
